Contact: C-BAN has no central address. C-BAN’s website will provide public access to reliable information and annotated links to organizations and other sources of information on the whole range of issues related to biotechnology and genetic engineering. A general informational listserv, jest-west@sfu.ca, intended to serve as a uniquely Canadian window on biotech, is also managed by Christine Massey. The "entry fee" for Jest-West is a brief paragraph of introduction sent to the list manager. This introduction should describe location, primary activities, and reason for wishing to be added to the listserv. Membership: We are an active network, constantly trying to become aware of people who are active, knowledgeable, and in agreement with our Principle Statement. They will be added to the C-BAN list and thereby expand the agenda in an organic manner. We are also constantly seeking allies with whom we can work on specific issues and goals, for example our canola campaign. C-BAN is coordinated through a dedicated email listserv, c-ban@sfu.ca, managed by Christine Massey (cmassey@sfu.ca). This list is composed of coordinating committee members and others on recommendation of existing members. Briefs and interventions submitted to legislators, government agencies and civil society organizations will be the responsibility of individual members of C-BAN who will be so identified and responsible for these positions in the name of C-BAN. These will be posted to the C-BAN list for objections or corrections, and then submitted as position papers with the potential for sign-ons by local C-BAN groups and others. Local groups that accept C-BAN’s Principle Statement may use the name of C-BAN in their organizing and actions. We believe that effective action and intelligent strategies emerge from the grassroots, and respect the work of people who have already been active on these issues. As a virtual network, we are prepared to advise and participate but our authority is our work, not our organization.
