What is C-BAN?
As mentioned, the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network is a group of people concerned with issues of genetic engineering and biotechnology.
C-BAN has adopted the Position Statement on Biotechnology (February 24, 1997) of BCBC (the British Columbia Biotechnology Circle) to steer itself into the future.
Some of C-BAN's goals are outlined as follows:
To make biotechnology / genetic engineering a public issue requiring the involvement of the public in debate and policy making.
To provide information which will enable the public to examine critically and knowledgeably issues related to biotechnology and genetic engineering.
To facilitate communication, debate, and alliances among groups concerned with different aspects of these issues. (eg. on genetic testing, aboriginal women and disabled people)
To promote biodiversity in all areas, including humanity.
