What is C-BAN?

As mentioned, the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network is a group of people concerned with issues of genetic engineering and biotechnology.

C-BAN has adopted the Position Statement on Biotechnology (February 24, 1997) of BCBC (the British Columbia Biotechnology Circle) to steer itself into the future.

Some of C-BAN's goals are outlined as follows:
  • To make biotechnology / genetic engineering a public issue requiring the involvement of the public in debate and policy making.
  • To provide information which will enable the public to examine critically and knowledgeably issues related to biotechnology and genetic engineering.
  • To facilitate communication, debate, and alliances among groups concerned with different aspects of these issues. (eg. on genetic testing, aboriginal women and disabled people)
  • To promote biodiversity in all areas, including humanity.
